Delmonico’s Restaurant opened its doors in Manhattan’s Financial District in 1837, thus becoming the first fine-dining restaurant to use the French designation in the United States. Over the next 178 years, the revered birthplace of American classics such as Delmonico Steak, Eggs Benedict, Lobster Newburg and Baked Alaska would continue to define culinary excellence and remain the crown jewel of New York City’s dining scene. Today Executive Chef Billy Oliva breathes new life into the signatures while also complementing the traditional steakhouse fare with seasonal finesse and a seafood savvy approach. As celebrity chefs and restaurateurs turn to downtown Manhattan as the next best destination, Delmonico’s (and Delmonico’s Grill) remains a forever cornerstone of the downtown-dining scene.
